Use Your Mind
for A Positive Change!
By Diane Bahr-Groth, C. Hy., TFTdx
Hypnosis. To some, the very word
still conjures up thoughts of creepy old castles, thunderstorms
and helpless victims in a zombie-like trance. In fact, nothing
could be further from the truth.
Hypnosis is widely recognized by
researchers as a very safe, natural and enjoyable state of deep
physical and emotional relaxation. Hypnosis may possibly even
be as old as mankind itself. The old myths and misconceptions
about hypnosis have given way to proven, scientifically-sound
applications. Today, hypnosis has gone mainstream. The ethical
use of hypnosis is seen in a variety of fields, including medicine,
dentistry, law enforcement, professional sports, self-improvement
and behavioral modification as well as education. The American
Medical Association approved hypnosis in 1958, calling it a viable
and beneficial health alternative. Since then perhaps millions
of people world-wide have benefited from its use. Men, women and
children are using hypnosis regularly and their doctors are recommended
it for help with many problems from arthritis to childbirth to
stress reduction.
In all likelihood, virtually everyone
has been hypnotized many times. Have you ever been driving along
a highway and suddenly realized that you weren't consciously aware
of having driven past certain usually familiar landmarks? Have
you ever stopped at a red traffic light and not noticed that it
had turned green? Have you ever watched a television commercial?
Have you ever become lost in thought while watching the dancing
light of a roaring fire? Then, in all likelihood, you have been
in a light state of hypnosis.
Safe, Natural,
Enjoyable
Traditionally, hypnosis helps one
to enjoy a deep state of relaxation. It is while in this peaceful
state, one becomes more focused and actually has a heightened
of awareness. The hypnotic induction simply helps the subject
to become more directed and relaxed thereby making the transition
from conscious awareness to subconscious awareness. As a result
of deepening techniques, the natural endorphin and serotonin levels
of the body are increased. As this occurs, the conscious portion
of the mind, which is critical and analytical, is temporarily
suspended as the subconscious mind accepts suggestions to benefit
the individual. Contrary to a common misconception, a hypnotized
subject cannot be induced to do anything against his or her ethical
or moral code. As a matter of fact, while in a state of hypnosis,
the subject is very aware of activity and sound and is fully in
control and capable of "coming out" of this relaxed
state any time he wishes.
More Than 90%
of Patients Benefit from Hypnosis
Mainstream journals like Gastroenterology
and Pediatrics report that hypnosis can help patients tap into
their own ability to heal themselves. Reports from hospitals and
doctors all over the world tell of using hypnosis to free patients
of debilitating Parkinson's disease tremors for hours, to help
asthmatics become wheeze-free, to eliminate symptoms of migraines,
reduce pain and even to heal burns faster. Studies show that more
than 90% of patients who were hypnotized received benefits from
the treatment. Highly motivated patients, such as cancer patients,
can undergo chemotherapy treatments without the typical side effects
such as nausea when hypnosis is used before treatments. Burn patients
heal faster and use less medication if hypnotized within two hours
of their injuries. Patients who require surgery bleed less, have
fewer complications and recover faster when hypnosis is used prior
to the operation procedures according to U.S. News & World
Report.
Hypnosis Helps
in Many Ways
Hypnosis has been successful in
a variety of other ways. It can help to relieve and control stress,
reduce blood pressure and improve creativity and motivation. Hypnosis
can even enhance sports performances. It has been reported that
Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus use hypnotic techniques before every
golf shot as well as athletes in many other sports including basketball,
baseball, etc. as well as with teams preparing for The Olympics.
A well known weight loss guru has reportedly used hypnosis to
help achieve his goals in eating healthier foods. Hypnosis has
also been used as a crime-solving tool in assisting victims and
witnesses to remember forgotten details of a crime. Many people
have used age regression to ascertain important forgotten information
from childhood.
Weight Loss &
Smoking Cessation
It is a well established fact that
hypnosis can be used as an effective tool for everything from
behavior modification, success and motivation, healing and even
pain control. Many other problems such as fears, phobias, pain,
insomnia, poor study, memory and learning habits, self-esteem
issues, weight loss and smoking cessation are commonly helped
through the use of hypnosis. It helps to focus the mind's power
of concentration to enhance the medicine of the mind, thereby
helping one to experience an enjoyable sense of peace and wellbeing.
Hypnosis has proven to be an effective, safe and inexpensive method
to create desired physical and emotional change, positive results
and implement self-healing where traditional medicine has often
failed.
